Homo sapiens

HomoSapiens was my final-year project during my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Art. Developed at a time when social media platforms were rapidly transforming how people presented themselves, the project explored the growing culture of self-branding and personal image construction.

Inspired by the language and strategies of branding agencies, I imagined a fictional “Human Branding Studio” that treated individuals as brands, products, and marketable identities. Through this project, I questioned the increasing tendency of contemporary society to measure human value through visibility, desirability, and market appeal.

As digital platforms encouraged individuals to curate and promote themselves, the boundaries between personal identity and commercial branding began to blur. Homo Sapiens emerged from observing this shift and reflecting on how human beings were increasingly positioned as commodities within a consumer-driven world.

The project examines the tension between authenticity and performance, asking what remains of human experience when identity itself becomes a product to be packaged, promoted, and consumed.
